The A (advanced) level qualification is the examination which secondary school students usually sit at the age of 18. It is offered in Northern Ireland, Wales and England. The A level qualification in Classical Greek is awarded after successful completion of four examinations:
- unseen verse and prose translation
- prose literature
- verse literature.
Examinations usually take place in May and June.
Participants will complete their study of Classical Greek grammar using Greek Beyond GCSE by John Taylor. An important part of the course will be reading a variety of ancient texts to broaden students’ experience in reading ancient Greek.
Set texts for 2024 will be chosen from the OCR prescriptions which includes extracts from Homer Odyssey book 1, Plutarch Alcibiades, and Aristophanes Clouds.
