Description
This advanced Classical Greek class will meet on Saturdays from 13.00-14.00 (GMT), using Greek Beyond GCSE by John Taylor. The class is conducted via Zoom. The class will require approximately 1-2 hours of independent study between each lesson.
You should already be familiar with grammar from the GCSE syllabus: all noun declensions, the active, passive and middle voice in the present, future, imperfect and aorist tenses, contract verbs, indirect statements, uses of the subjunctive and optative moods, and the perfect tense.
In this 9 week term we will cover grammar from chapters 3 and 4 of the textbook, including more uses of the subjuntive and optative moods, impersonal verbs and the accusative absolute construction. Students will continue to learn about the Classical Greek world through translation of adapted passages and some unadapted texts.
Dates for the spring term are Saturday 24th January, 31st January, 7th February, 14th February, 21st February, 28th February, 7th March, 14th March, and 21st March 2026.
Tutor: Helen McVeigh
The class will proceed subject to a minimum number of enrolments.
Cancellation policy: students will receive a full refund if the student cancels their registration more than two weeks before the class begins. Students will receive 50% refund if the student cancels their registration 8-14 days before the class begins.
