Description

There’s no-one quite like Homer. And this online class is for anyone who loves the Odyssey and the Iliad. We are a group of Homer fans who enjoy exploring the language but also discussing the wider cultural context of the poems.

Of course, there’s nothing quite like reading the Homeric epics in the original Greek. But you are welcome to join us whether you have never translated Homer before and would like to see how it’s done, or you already have some experience with translation of unadapted Greek.

We will continue reading Odyssey book 3. Suggested edition: Homer, Odyssey I-XII, edited with Introduction and Notes by W.B. Stanford (ISBN 978-1853995026).

The group will meet on Tuesdays from 16:00-17:00 (GMT) on 16th January, 23rd January, 30th January, 6th February, (mid-term break on 13th February), 20th February, 27th February, 5th March, 12th March and 19th March 2024.
Tutor: Helen McVeigh
