GCSE Greek second year (September 2025 – March 2026)

This course is for those who have reached chapter 9 of Greek to GCSE. Students will complete the grammar on the GCSE specification, and will read the Homer and Herodotus sections of the GCSE Anthology, enabling those who complete the course to sit the GCSE examination.
 
Classes will meet on Tuesdays at 18:00-19:30 (UK time) from 23rd September 2025 through the autumn and spring terms.

Description

This intensive course is for those who have reached chapter 9 of Greek to GCSE by John Taylor, or have covered the following grammar: all noun declensions; the indicative mood and participles in the present, imperfect, future and aorist tenses, in the active, middle, and passive voices; personal pronouns; demonstrative adjectives, and regular comparative and superlative adjectives.
 
The course will continue with contract verbs, third declension adjectives, irregular comparative and superlative adjectives, indirect statements, and the subjunctive and optative moods. Alongside the grammar, students will read a verse (Homer) and a prose (Herodotus) text from the GCSE syllabus, enabling those who complete the course to sit the GCSE examination.
 
Students will meet for 90 minutes per week. The class is conducted via Zoom.
 
Students should have access to
  • Greek to GCSE part 2 by John Taylor, ISBN 978-1474255202, and
  • OCR Anthology for Classical Greek GCSE 2025-2026 by Judith Affleck and Clive Letchford, ISBN 978-1350161818.
The class will require approximately 2-3 hours of independent study between each lesson.
 
This course is suitable for those who wish to move at a faster pace, and for those who may be considering sitting the GCSE examination in May/June 2026. 
 
The class will meet on Tuesdays at 18:00-19:30 (UK time) through the autumn and spring terms.
 
Dates for the autumn term are Tuesday 23rd September, 30th September, 7th October, 14th October, 21st October, (mid-term break 28th October), 4th November, 11th November, 18th November, 25th November, 2nd December 2025.
 
Dates for the spring term are Tuesday 13th January, 20th January, 27th January, 3rd February, 10th February, (mid-term break on 17th February), 24th February, 3rd March, 10th March, and 17th March 2026.

The class will proceed subject to a minimum number of enrolments.

Cancellation policy: students will receive a full refund if the student cancels their registration more than two weeks before the class begins. Students will receive 50% refund if the student cancels their registration 8-14 days before the class begins.
