This course follows the syllabus for the OCR GCSE Latin, covering the specification for the language, verse and literature and culture.
 
Classes meet on Wednesdays at 19:00-20:00 (UK/Ireland time) from 17th September 2025 through the autumn and spring terms.

Description

This course follows the syllabus for the OCR GCSE Latin, covering the specification for the language, verse and literature and culture. We will be starting from chapter 9 of the Latin to GCSE Book 2 (Cullen and Taylor, ISBN 978-1780934419) and will be studying Vergil’s Aeneid book 1, lines 12-123.

Participants should already be familiar with the present, imperfect, future, perfect and pluperfect tenses; first, second and third declension nouns and adjectives in all cases, comparative and superlative adjectives, the passive voice, and participles.

Students will meet for 2 hours per week. The class is conducted via Zoom.

The class will require approximately 2-3 hours of independent study between each lesson. This course is suitable for those planning to sit the GCSE examination in May/June 2026, and for those interested in making progress in Latin, reading an unadapted text, and learning more about myth, religion, and entertainment in the Roman world.

Dates for the autumn term are Wednesday 17th September, 24th September, (no class 1st October), 8th October, 15th October, 22nd October, (mid-term break 29th October), 5th November, 12th November, 19th November, 26th November, 3rd December 2025.

Dates for the spring term are Wednesday 14th January, 21st January, 28th January, 4th February, 11th February, (mid-term break on 18th February), 25th February, 4th March, 11th March, 18th March, and 25th March 2026.

The class will proceed subject to a minimum number of enrolments.

Cancellation policy: students will receive a full refund if the student cancels their registration more than two weeks before the class begins. Students will receive 50% refund if the student cancels their registration 8-14 days before the class begins.
