Description
The Roman Republic grew from a small market town to the mistress of the Mediterranean in less than five hundred years. Constant wars fuelled by the political ambitions of Roman aristocrats in part brought about these changes.
This short four-week course will look at the development, causes and effects of Roman Imperialism during the Republic during the years 264 to 51 BC. Discussions of the authors Polybius and Livy will illuminate the lectures.
Classes will be conducted via Zoom on Wednesdays, 19:30-21:00 (GMT+1) on 24th April, 1st May, 8th May and 15th May 2024.
Tutor: Dr Stephen Chappell.
