I am delighted to announce that the Belfast Summer School in Latin and Classical Greek will take place online from Monday 5th July until Friday 16th July 2021.
Courses are offered in Latin and Classical Greek at beginners, lower intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced levels. Students may enrol for one week or two, finishing on either Friday 9th July or Friday 16th July. Students will be provided with worksheets and handouts and it is not necessary to purchase a textbook.
The course fee is £130 if registering for two weeks, £70 if registering for one week. The summer school is open to all aged 13 and over.
Some feedback from previous summer school students:
“(The tutor) made the online really seamless; I felt I was in the room!”
“I found the course challenging, and incredibly effective. I thoroughly enjoyed the pace, the content, the delivery of the course, and the immersion in the material, I’ll see you next year.”
“I loved how much I got out of the course for the price, and that it was fast paced. My instructor was so approachable … it was taught very well.”
In addition to daily classes, there are a number of optional talks and workshops. You can view the provisional programme here: https://helenmcveigh.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/2021-provisional-programme.pdf

Hi Helen, I would be interested in this, but work full time in education so wouldn’t be able to commit during the day. Is this something I could do after work and weekends? Thanks, Rachel
Hi Rachel, the classes are scheduled for afternoons and while the tutors could catch you up on any classes you miss, it wouldn’t be suitable for you if you were unable to make any of the classes. Apologies.
Hi Helen,
A question about the summer school. Will each of the two week courses have a different syllabus from the other week? I would do two weeks of advanced Greek if the texts are different, as I wouldn’t want to repeat a text. Though I could also do advanced Latin one week and advanced Greek the other.
Can U.S students enroll in this course!?
Hi Malissa, yes the classes are scheduled so that students from some other time zones can attend.
Helen
Hi!
Your information booklet on Google Drive isn’t working! Could you please repost it? I’d love to join your Greek class!
Thanks Andrew, I’ll fix that right away!
I have the same query as Isabel – is the second week a follow on from the first (further advancing knowledge) or is it more of a repeat? Thanks.
Hi Carol, the second week follows on from the first. Helen
Hello,
Are the applications for the 2021 summer school still open?
Milly
Yes they are! Email me on helen@helenmcveigh.co.uk 😀
I had a ticket to yesterday’s public lecture /workshop on Ancient Greek pronunciation but missed it because I had to leave about 5 minutes into the talk when interrupted by an urgent phone call. I think the talk was being recorded – Will it be possible for me to access the recording?
Thank you. Carol
