Description

This advanced Classical Greek class will meet on Saturdays from 11.30-12.30 (GMT+1, UK/Ireland local time), using Greek Beyond GCSE by John Taylor. The class is conducted via Zoom. The class will require approximately 1-2 hours of independent study between each lesson.

You should already be familiar with grammar from the GCSE syllabus: all noun declensions, the active, passive and middle voice in the present, future, imperfect and aorist tenses, contract verbs, indirect statements,  uses of the subjunctive and optative moods, and the perfect tense.

In this 9 week term we will cover grammar from chapter 3 of the textbook, including -μι verbs and verbs taking a dependent participle. Students will continue to learn about the Classical Greek world through translation of adapted passages and some unadapted texts.

Dates for the summer term are 13th April, 20th April, 27th April, 4th May, 11th May, no class on 18th May, 25th May, 1st June, 8th June, 15th June 2024.

Tutor: Helen McVeigh.
