Description
There’s no-one quite like Homer. And this online class is for anyone who loves the Odyssey and the Iliad. We are a group of Homer fans who enjoy exploring the language but also discussing the wider cultural context of the poems.
Of course, there’s nothing quite like reading the Homeric epics in the original Greek. You are welcome to join us whether you have never translated Homer before and would like to see how it’s done, or you already have some experience with translation of unadapted Greek.
We will continue reading Odyssey book 6 in the original Greek. Suggested edition: Homer, Odyssey I-XII, edited with Introduction and Notes by W.B. Stanford (ISBN 978-1853995026).
The group will meet on Tuesdays from 16:00-17:00 (GMT+1) for 8 weeks on 29th April, 6th May, 13th May, 20th May, 27th May, 3rd June, 10th June, and 17th June 2025.
The class will proceed subject to a minimum number of enrolments.
Cancellation policy: students will receive a full refund if the student cancels their registration more than two weeks before the class begins. Students will receive 50% refund if the student cancels their registration 8-14 days before the class begins.
